married | a portrait session | michelle + daniel
Two weeks ago today, I texted my sister-in-law Michelle to see if she and my brother/her husband had any afternoon plans. They were lounging about the house, planning and packing for Daniel's company trip to Mexico the following day. I requested their time + modeling skills in exchange for practicing using my 35mm film camera. (Yep - that's right. Old school, roll it up, get it developed in a dark room, laugh at some of the ridiculous photos you forgot about film.)
They, being the kind siblings + people that they are, obliged and let me take my camera out and figure out what the heck I was doing without seeing any results on the back of my camera! And yes, I did keep looking at the back of the camera to see how they were turning out, each time to say to myself again, "Oh yeah, it's not digital - it's film. You can't see it. Good luck!"
Yesterday, I got the film scans back from The FIND Lab. I was so nervous - would they even be in focus? Would they be completely dark? Completely bright? What would they look like? I bit my nails in nervous anticipation as I opened up the folders.
And I have to say.... I actually sort of love how they turned out.
Michelle and Daniel are excellent models.... and pretty good looking, if I do say so myself!
And Malachi even joined us for a few photos!
I am so thankful to be learning a new medium of art; but more importantly, I am thankful for a family that loves me, supports me, and dresses up in the middle of their weekend off to help me pursue my dreams.
