Kara + Steve | The Engine Room Winter Wedding in Monroe, GA

Kara & Steve
The Engine Room
Winter 2017

Despite the winter snowstorm of January 2017, Kara and Steve's friends, family, and vendors rallied together to create the most beautiful wedding day on an uncertain weekend. The weather had been bad that week, and many roads were inaccessible. In fact, I drove over to Monroe a day early to make sure I was within walking distance of The Engine Room, just in case! (Huge shoutout to The Sparrow Hill Inn for being so accommodating and kind last minute. Um, also, I wish I could go to your Bed & Breakfast every single weekend.)

Defying the icy roads and chilling temperatures, details were set into place, doors opened, and the ceremony and reception went off without a hitch. Plus, guests filled The Engine Room to the brim to witness and gather! For so much unknown on Friday, the Lord was faithful to answer the prayers of Kara, Steve, their wedding party, and their family to allow for the sweetest of love celebrations. I was so thankful to document such an incredible wedding day, and cheers to #RingingInTheRandalls!

Fall Family Session in Vinings, GA

Kevin and Angela welcomed me graciously into their home on an early Saturday afternoon - one of those Fall afternoons that feels so perfect outside you forget that going inside is an option. In addition to the light pouring in from their new home addition of a sunroom, their backyard also opens up to beautiful foliage and light pouring through the trees. Angela, a librarian and lover of books, chatted with me and lent me books from her extensive bookshelf, while Kevin and I chatted about our love of math and teaching. It was the perfect afternoon in every way. Angela served us chips and dip while Saturday football played,  and when sweet Hadley woke up from her nap, we made sure to document some family photos.

This session is significant to me in many ways - first and foremost, because this family was so gentle, laid-back, and exactly what I want families to feel like during a session. Secondly, I shot this session exclusively on film, which was my first session ever without a single digital photograph. I love that Hadley's fashion is better than mine and that she felt altogether comfortable to be a child. From the light that shone through her hair, to the way she ran around and played, this encompassed "lifestyle" better than I could have asked for.

Thank you three for trusting me + inviting me into your home. I am thankful for you.

Enjoy. :)

xoxo

A Saturday Morning, and Some Pretty Pictures

What does a wedding photographer do on a free Saturday? Well, I don't know about others... but I sleep in. Delay doing anything productive. Have an extra cup of coffee. Warm a bagel in the oven. Pet my cat, since, after all, it is National Cat Day.

I just returned from Tallahassee, where I visited my most favorite Florida photographer, Shannon Griffin. We had a workcation, on our computers side by side, giving and receiving input, talking about the year, about future plans, about when we could photograph together again. Oh, and then we ate some delicious food and bought some pretty plants.

Some other things on the docket today? Working out at Orange Theory. Perusing Whole Foods. Cleaning, organizing, and making my giveaway pile. Opening film scans and looking at pretty images like these. Man, does Portra 800 make skin look pretty.

Oh, and Editing. Lots and lots of editing....

What is your favorite way to spend a Saturday?
